Update from Pastor Joey McKee Oct 2023

May 30th – I was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma cancer that spread to my liver

I met my oncology team in early June and decided on my treatment plan.

  • Holistic approach
  • Medical approach – Immunotherapy (4 Rounds and then check the progress of effectiveness). 50% probability of working

On October 2nd, I had another Brain MRI and CAT SCAN to see if the treatment was working.

On October 3rd, I completed Round 4 of my medical treatment, Immunotherapy.

The Brain MRI showed no cancer in my brain, Praise The Lord.

The CAT SCAN revealed no NEW cancer tumors were spreading in my body, PTL, but the original tumors looked like they were growing.  There was only one way to tell whether the treatment was working, and that was to get a biopsy, which I did on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, my oncologist called me with the results.  The immunotherapy I was on was not working. The tumors are growing.  At what rate, we don’t know.

Where does that leave me?  Medically, I am praying through some other options.

  • Referral to the University of Colorado Cancer Center in Aurora
  • Referral to Healthstone Clinic in Denver
  • Researching some Cancer Centers in Mexico
  • A possible visit to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Where does that leave me spiritually?

In the same place, I was when I started down this road. God hasn’t changed. His ability hasn’t

  • Entirely dependent, trusting, and resting on and in God, my Heavenly Father!

What do you do when you keep getting news you were hoping not to get because it can be discouraging to continue getting unfavorable news?

I will continue doing what I have been doing this whole journey …

Isaiah 26:3-4  Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says…

3 You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.4 So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].    How can you pray for us? Pray for strength, direction, wisdom, and provision.  AMEN!  Â
